Special Announcement - We regret that there will be no more trains in October or November 2020

In light of the increased coronavirus problem in Wales and to conform with the Welsh Government's announcement of a "firebreak" lockdown, the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway will be closed to visitors from October 23rd to November 9th. Trains planned for the 24th / 25th / 27th / 28th / 29th and 31st of October, and the 1st of November, have been cancelled.

The railway invites visitors with existing bookings to contact the railway starting Tuesday 20 October so that we can offer full refunds or conversion of fares to donations as visitors prefer.  Telephone 01938 810441.


We are pleased to announce that we are recommencing a return service to our Welshpool (Raven Square) station from Llanfair Caereinion on Saturday and Sunday afternoons during October (plus Wednesday 28th October and Sunday 1st November afternoons). The train will depart Llanfair Caereinion at 14.00 and arrives back at Llanfair at 16.00. 

Fares for this service are:




First One or Two Adults (in party) (minimum fare) £36.00
Additional Adult   £15.00 (each)
Child Aged 3 to 15   £5.00 (each)
Family - 2 adults & 2 children (aged 3 to 15)   £39.00
Children - Under 3   Free
Dog   £3.50 (each)

These fares are valid for the special train only, Llanfair Caereinion to Welshpool and Return.

Tickets must be purchased in advance of travel. Please call 01938 810441 (09.00-16.30) to book.

Please note: There is no access to the train at Welshpool although the toilets will be available for passenger's use.

Covid-19 Conditions of Travel

Don’t come if you’re ill.

Must travel both ways on the booked train only due to limited capacity and distancing. If you alight at Welshpool please return to the carriage that you travelled in from Llanfair in order to maintaince social distancing.

Must wear face coverings as on main line railways.

Please come from our free car park at Llanfair station only 15 minutes before departure to help distancing.

Other fares

All other fares and concessions are temporarily suspended.


Well behaved dogs are permitted to travel for a small fee, however they should be kept on a lead at all times. We regret that only guide dogs are permitted in the tea room at Llanfair Caereinion.
