Experience the thrill of riding 'Up-Front' on a vintage steam locomotive. 

Feel the heat of the fire, hear the locomotive 'bark' and watch the beautiful scenery of Mid Wales pass by on this brand-new experience on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway.

For just £99, you or a loved one can join the driver and fireman on the footplate of one of our historic steam locomotives for a return journey of 16 miles. The trip lasts approximately two hours. 
We are just 90 minutes from Liverpool and Birmingham, so are more accessible than you might think!

This price includes an adult membership of the railway for the 'rider', and a complimentary ticket for a 'plus one' who can ride in the carriages behind the locomotive and take plenty of snaps!

Footplate experience train

There is a minimum age of 18 for this experience. This experience is not accessible to those with physical disabilities which do not allow them to climb the small steps onto the locomotive to access this experience or leave the locomotive quickly in the event of an emergency, because of the age of our locomotives. Those with learning difficulties should contact the railway to ensure the experience is suitable for their needs.  Guests must have adequate hearing to hear and fully understand instructions made on the noisy environment of the locomotive footplate. Guests must have reasonable eyesight. Please note that this is not a locomotive driving experience, and the 'rider' will not drive the locomotive at any point.
