A 16 mile return journey by narrow gauge steam train through beautiful Mid Wales countryside.

Orange Service

Travel on replicas of our original 1903 Great Western liveried bogie carriages, with goods wagons and brake van attached, and watch the shunting at each end of the trip. Each weekend will feature additional historical activities, including demonstration freight movements, trans-shipment, heritage steam-powered road vehicles, agricultural displays and, for the 30th September - 1st October Grand Finale, our participation  in the Welshpool 1940's weekend with re-enactments, military vehicles and period music.

 The 'Vintage Trains' depart Llanfair Caereinion at 11:05 and 14:35, or from Welshpool at 13:05 and 16:15 (no return train available from Llanfair Caereinion).

Our other departues on the day will be hauled by one of our other steam locomotives, with passenger accommodation in our regular Austrian and Hungarian carriages.

Normal fares apply on all trains. (Member’s free travel not valid on the vintage trains)

 



Fish & Chips Evening Train

Fish & Chips

Travel on the special evening train from Llanfair Caereinion; at Welshpool we will serve your choice of meal to enjoy on the return journey, with a pause at Castle Caereinion (weather permitting).  Advance booking essential.

This special train will operate in addition to our daytime service.

Ordinary fares apply on our daytime service, but special fares will be applicable on the evening Fish & Chips train.

Gala Weekend - Friday

The start of our biggest event of the year, now over three days.  During the event, every operating engine will be in use.  Traction engines, steam cars and lorries, a model railway exhibition, demonstrations and trade stands.  Please note that not all attractions will be available on Friday.

Diesel Day

All passenger trains hauled by our vintage diesels, and our collection of military and industrial diesels out for demonstrations, plus a possible visiting engine.  Shock/horror: NO steam locomotives on this day!

Halloween

Llanfair Caereinion station will be spookily decorated and the last train will return to Llanfair in eerie dusk.

Come in costume, as there will prizes for the most imaginative.

Santa Special

9th/10th & 16th/17th/18th of December. Trains leave Llanfair Caereinion frequently to take adults and children to meet Santa and receive a gift. Mince pies, mulled wine and fruit drinks are served on your return to Llanfair.
