Easter Bunny - Friday 25 March

The Easter Bunny will be visiting the railway on 25 to 28 March.  Watch for Easter eggs along the line and check them off the list.  All travelling children receive a handsome chocolate egg on arrival at Llanfair Caereinion.

The Yellow service operates on 25 March, and the Blue service operates on 26, 27 & 28 March.

Normal fares apply for this event.

Travel on replicas of our original 1903 Great Western liveried bogie carriages, with goods wagons and brake van attached, and watch the shunting at each end of the trip.  The 'Vintage Trains' depart Llanfair Caereinion at 11:05 and 14:35, or from Welshpool at 13:05 and 16:15 (no return train available from Llanfair Caereinion). 

Our other departues on the day will be hauled by one of our other steam locomotives, with passenger accommodation in our regular Austrian and Hungarian carriages.

Fish & Chips Evening Train (daytime Blue Timetable)

Saturday, 28th May 2016

Travel on the special evening train from Llanfair Caereinion; at Welshpool we will serve your choice of meal to enjoy on the return journey, with a pause at Castle Caereinion (weather permitting).  Advance booking essential - further details to follow.

This special train will operate in addition to our daytime 'Blue' service.

Ordinary fares apply on our daytime service, but special fares will be applicable on the evening Fish & Chips train.



Afternoon Tea Train (plus Yellow service)

Travel in the luxurious first class Sierra Leone Railway carriage en-route to Welshpool or return on an extra afternoon departure from Llanfair Caereinion.  Includes afternoon tea on train.  Spaces limited - advance booking strongly advised.  Further details to follow.

Special fares will apply on the 'Afternoon Tea' train, but ordinary fares apply on our ordinary 'Yellow' service.



Country Railway Weekend

Experience the W&LLR in pre-preservation times as it served the agricultural community.  Travel on our replica 1903 carriages, watch demonstration freight movements and trans-shipment, and admire vintage road vehicles.

A special timetable will be in operation.  Further details to follow.

Canada Day

Make our Canadian General Manager feel at home.  Plot your friends and relations on a map of Canada, win souvenir prizes, admire Canadian railway posters and travel free if you have a Canadian passport.

Ham Radio Weekend

Amateur radio operators will communicate with the world from Raven Square platform using the special call-sign GB4WLR.

Annual Gala Weekend

Friday, 2nd September 2016 to Sunday, 4th September 2016

Our biggest event of the year, now over three days.  Every operating engine will be in use.  Traction engines, steam cars and lorries, a model railway exhibition, demonstrations and trade stands, and a shuttle bus to the associated Llanfair Garden railway Show up the hill at Llanfair High School.

Teddy Bear Weekend

Bring your teddies, spot their friends in the woods along the line, and meet Big Ted for treats at Llanfair.

Diesel Day

All passenger trains hauled by our vintage diesels, and our collection of military and industrial diesels out for demonstrations.  Shock/horror: NO steam locomotives on this day!

Santa Special

10th/11th & 17th/18th/19th of December. Trains leave Llanfair Caereinion frequently to take adults and children to meet Santa and receive a gift. Mince pies, mulled wine and fruit drinks are served on your return to Llanfair.
