Statement
The Welshpool and Llanfair
Light Railway welcomes visitors of all abilities.
On Train
Being a historic narrow gauge
railway somewhat restricts on train facilities, however MOST of
our trains have a vehicle that has been adapted to carry a
maximum of four non-motorised wheelchairs (24” / 600mm or
less). Ramps are
provided at Welshpool Raven Square and Llanfair Caereinion
stations to gain access to these vehicles from the station
platforms.
As space is limited it is
essential to telephone the railway (01938 810441) in advance of
your visit.
We regret that our Pickering
Carriages (used on Vintage Trains and some other services) and
our former Sierra Leone Railway Carriages (used on The African
Train and some other services) are not
suitable for carrying wheelchairs.
None of our carriages have
toilet facilities.
Welshpool Raven Square and
Llanfair Caereinion stations
Both termini have ramped
access on to the platforms and the station buildings.
Please ask a member of staff for assistance should you
have any difficulties in the shop, tearoom or booking halls
where some shelves and counters might not be convenient for
people confined to a wheelchair.
Toilets for the physically disabled (and baby changing
facilities) are available at both stations.
All toilets have level access.
Car parks are located adjacent
to the stations, a short distance from the booking offices.
Priority parking is available at Welshpool on your left
as you enter the car park.
It is possible to ‘drop off’ next to the station
entrances before parking your car.
Entrances to the station buildings at both termini are
via gentle slopes.
Intermediate stations
Sylfaen, Castle Caereinion,
Cyfronydd and Heniarth stations are not suitable for access by
passengers using wheelchairs and have no facilities or car
parks.
